Another Grammy for Danilo Pérez With the Wayne Shorter Quartet

Famed Panamanian pianist Danilo Pérez earned his second Grammy as a member of saxophonist Wayne Shorter’s quartet.

Now in its 61st year, the prestigious music awards show, held on February 10, awarded The Wayne Shorter Quartet the statuette for Best Instrumental Jazz Album for Emanon, which was partly recorded in Panama at Danilo’s Jazz Club with the help of sound engineers from both Panama and the U.S.

Pérez has been the Wayne Shorter Quartet’s pianist for the last 19 years, accompanying bassist John Patitucci and drummer Brian Blade. They won their first joint Grammy for the album Alegría (2003), also in the Best Instrumental Jazz Album category.
